Welsh digital agency ranks highly with online bank to win seven-figure contract backed by Finance Wales

A Cardiff-based digital marketing agency is celebrating winning a seven-figure contract with a leading online bank, after receiving a loan to provide working capital from Finance Wales.

Yard Digital, which specialises in web analytics, search engine optimisation (SEO) and social media, will work with the bank to optimise its online presence.

The undisclosed six-figure loan from Finance Wales provided Yard Digital with the capital it needed to expand the search engine optimisation (SEO) side of its business.

Established in 2006, Yard Digital has grown into one of Europe’s leading digital marketing performance agencies with an impressive list of blue-chip clients that includes British Gas and Legal & General.

Having successfully grown its revenues from providing clients with web analytic services, directors and co-founders, Stephan Briggs and Paul Newbury were keen to build the agency’s expertise in online search.

“We specialise in helping our clients understand their customers’ online behaviour and when Stephan and I set up Yard Digital our aim was to establish a leading data-driven marketing agency.  Having developed a range of web analytics services, we were keen to expand our SEO offering to provide our clients with a fully integrated service.

“To achieve this successfully we needed to build up our in-house expertise and Finance Wales’ investment provided us with the capital we needed to recruit a team of specialists which enabled us to win the contract with the Bank” Newbury explained.

Yard Digital has grown year on year as internet use by businesses has continued to increase. The global digital marketing industry is currently growing at over 14% per annum and is estimated to be worth over $87bn annually.

Investment Executive Dan Rees worked closely with Yard Digital to structure Finance Wales’ investment.  Commenting on the investment, he said: “Winning an SEO contract of this size clearly demonstrates Yard Digital’s focus, expertise and market understanding. The internet is an increasingly powerful business channel for many companies and they’re experts at helping them harness this to improve revenue and profitability.”

“Stephan and Paul have used Finance Wales’investment to put the next phase of their long-term growth strategy in place by building up their capability in a lucrative and growing market.”

2009 saw Yard Digital launch its innovative tag management spin-out, SiteTagger which was subsequently acquired by U.S based competitor BrightTag in 2012.  The acquisition created one of the world’s largest providers of internet tag management solutions with more than 100 clients worldwide including Gap, Levi’s and Yahoo!

Finance Wales’ investment in Yard Digital came from the £150 million Wales JEREMIE Fund.
