Finance Wales sponsors key IoD Wales International Women’s Day Lunch on 6th March 2015

Finance Wales is sponsoring this year’s IoD Wales Annual United Nations International Women’s Day Lunch.

Sport Wales Chair, Professor Laura McAllister will be the special guest speaker and Deputy Fund Managers Dr Melanie Goward and Bethan Cousins will host a table at the lunch which celebrates women’s achievements.

Dr Melanie Goward, who works in Finance Wales’ technology ventures team, welcomes the focus of the event.  She said: “International Women’s Day shines a spotlight on women’s achievements.  Finance Wales is pleased to sponsor this year’s IoD Wales lunch to highlight the important contribution women make in business.

“The 2011 Women on Boards report noted that corporate boards perform better when they include the best people from a range of perspectives and backgrounds.  Finance Wales’ board currently includes three women and we work with the SMEs we invest in to strengthen their boards and encourage them to consider a diverse range of female and male candidates when making appointments.”

Commenting on Finance Wales’ sponsorship of the lunch IoD Regional Director, Robert Lloyd Griffiths said, “We’re delighted that Finance Wales is sponsoring this year’s lunch.  Finance Wales plays an important role in the Welsh economy and we hope that its involvement will highlight women’s current and potential contribution to the success of Welsh businesses and the Welsh economy.

“The lunch has become a highlight on the IoD calendar and Professor McAllister, in her role as a former Wales footballer; Chair of Sport Wales and Professor of Governance at Liverpool University's School of Management; is always a very engaging speaker.

“I very much look forward to hearing what she has to say and know she will be inspirational and enlightening in equal measure.”

Figures published by the UK Government in March 2014 showed that women now account for 20.7% of board positions in the FTSE100 – up from 12.5% in 2011 and 17.3% in April 2013.  Research has also shown that companies with more women on their boards out-perform rivals across a range of key performance indicators.

Deputy Fund Manager, Bethan Cousins will be speaking at the Make Yourself Boardroom Ready event hosted by the Superwoman networking group on 14 May 2015.
