Alyson Macnamara – supporting businesses in south east Wales

How long have you worked at Finance Wales? Could you give us a quick career history?

I joined Finance Wales in January 2016, so I’ve been here for nearly a year. Before joining the micro loans team - where I help structure loans from £1,000 up to £50,000 - I worked as a business relationship manager for Barclays, managing a select portfolio of SMEs. I’ve a lot of experience of offering bespoke solutions to clients. I’ve also been a business mentor at SFEDI, the UK Sector Skills Body for Enterprise.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love cycling, going to the gym, musical theatre, travelling to new and exciting places and spending quality time with my children and my delightful grandchildren.

What range of businesses do you deal with?

We’re a very flexible team at Finance Wales and I have lent to every kind of business from retail to engineering firms, IT companies and catering businesses.

I’ve recently helped structure a £50,000 loan, along with co-investment from Barclays, to support Andrew Bayliss Hairdressing to buy the property he’s currently operating from in Agincourt Square, Monmouth. It’s a growing business and this loan is typical of the ways in which we can support sole traders and micro businesses.

Another recent £20,000 loan helped  Chocci Cake Company to open their first chocolate shop in the beautiful grounds of Tredegar House.

What’s the Monmouthshire business scene like?

There’s a vibrant business community in Monmouthshire, it’s an exciting patch to work on. We work closely with the local banks, advisers, council and of course businesses themselves.

I’m currently looking forward to speaking at the next Monmouth and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce event  at the end of January at the Bridges Community Centre Monmouth. I’m keen to meet new businesses as well as connecting with existing portfolio clients. I’m also holding a ‘Grow your business’ deal clinic in the Newport Velodrome on 17th January which companies from across south east Wales can come along to.

Could you tell us about what sort of things the microloans fund can help with?

Micro loans from Finance Wales can help with a range of loans for start-up costs, through to cash-flow lending or money for the purchase of new equipment and premises.

Finance Wales launched a fast track process for smaller loans earlier this year, how does this work?

Businesses or sole traders who have been trading for more than two years can apply for a fast track decision – that’s a decision made within two working days - for loans between £1,000 and £5,000. You can apply through our website - www.financewales.co.uk.

I’m a business interested in a microloan - how do I get in touch?
