Italian-inspired restaurant Porro opens second restaurant in Cardiff after six-figure Finance Wales investment

Tom Furlong and Gwyn Myring really know their food. The pair of chefs behind the amazing menu at Llandaff’s Porro are preparing to take their Italian-inspired local cuisine to Roath with the opening of their second restaurant on Wellfield Road.

“Our menu is Italian inspired. We use fresh, local Welsh ingredients in all our dishes. This keeps our food miles low and quality high,” said Chef and Co-owner Gwyn Myring. “We make every effort to keep our menu seasonal, which means there’ll always be an opportunity to try something new.”

“We've had a fantastic first year at our restaurant in Llandaff,” added fellow Chef and Co-owner Tom Furlong. “Opening a second in Cardiff made sense. There’s a great community spirit in Roath and Penylan and we’re excited to be a part of it. We’re very much focused on community spirit and work closely with local suppliers.”

The Porro team opened their first restaurant in Llandaff in 2015. Porro’s Wellfield Road restaurant opens on Wednesday 2 November. Porro number two will offer everything from a casual stop-off lunch or coffee, to private dining in their upstairs function room.

“This is a really exciting time for us and for the foodies of Cardiff,” added Operations Manager Karen Rees.

The new restaurant has been supported with a six figure investment from Finance Wales and will create nine full time equivalent jobs.

Finance Wales Deputy Fund Manager Cenydd Rowlands who structured the deal added: “Porro have a winning combination of great food and a well thought out business expansion plan. Gwyn and Tom are excellent chefs, recognised locally for their talent and exciting menus.”

Co-owner and Manager Cerys Furlong added: “Securing investment from Finance Wales was a smooth process and has really boosted our expansion plans. We’ve been blown away with the support that our customers and investors have shown.”
